Who We Are

Our Mission

Our mission is to create an intimate, high-quality live music experience that brings artists and audiences closer together. We believe great music deserves a great room — one with exceptional sound, thoughtful lighting, warm hospitality, and an audience that truly listens.

Rooted in a community that values creativity and connection, we aim to be a year-round home for artists and music lovers alike. Our size is intentional: it allows for powerful, up-close performances and meaningful moments that larger venues simply can’t offer. What we may lack in scale, we make up for in atmosphere, care, and character.

We’re committed to thoughtful curation — blending emerging voices with established artists, introducing new genres while honoring familiar favorites, and creating a welcoming space for both longtime locals and new audiences. By fostering strong partnerships, supporting artists fairly, and cultivating a vibrant, inclusive vibe, we strive to be more than a venue — we aim to be a place people feel connected to, inspired by, and excited to return to.

ButtonBall Barn is small, loud (in a good way), and full of people who actually came to see music — not just drink near it. The sound is dialed in, the crowd is tuned in, and the vibe is somewhere between “secret show” and “your favorite room you wish more people knew about.”

More Than a Venue. It’s a Vibe.

Early History and Origins

  • The Barn sits on the property of the Egremont Village Inn, whose main house was built in 1786 by Colonel Joseph Curtis, a Revolutionary War veteran and early settler of the area 4.

  • The barn itself dates back to the 1830s and has served various purposes over the years, including as the Robbie Burns Pub in the 1970s and ’80s—a well-known local roadhouse and gathering place for young people and music lovers 13.

Revival and Modern Era

  • In the early 2010s, the Keene family purchased the property with the goal of revitalizing both the inn and the barn. After extensive renovations—preserving much of the barn’s original character—the space reopened in 2016 as The Egremont Barn, a music and community venue.

Recent Developments

  • The Barn quickly became a cornerstone of the Berkshires’ cultural scene, drawing both locals and visitors for its eclectic programming and welcoming atmosphere.

  • After a brief closure, The Egremont Barn reopened in May 2025 under new ownership by Heather Thomson and Doug Grabe.

  • Heather and Doug plan to continue the Barn’s tradition as a live music venue and community gathering spot, while also exploring new possibilities.

Legacy

  • Throughout its history, The Egremont Barn has played a special role as more than just a music venue—it is a community hub that celebrates the unique spirit and heritage of the Berkshires.

  • In summary, The Egremont Barn’s story is one of historic roots, creative revival, and ongoing community significance, ensuring its place as a cherished destination for generations to come.
